Mosques in Bangkok: 8 Masjids + Prayer Rooms in Malls & Airports

Finding a place to pray in Bangkok is easier than most first-time visitors expect. This guide covers 8 mosques in Bangkok that are easy to reach, from the riverside old town to Sukhumvit, plus the Muslim prayer rooms inside Siam Paragon, CentralWorld, MBK, ICONSIAM, Terminal 21 and both airports. Updated October 2026.

Whether you are exploring the old town or shopping in Sukhumvit, here is how to find each mosque and prayer room, what to expect inside, and where to eat nearby. We do not list prayer times, because they change every day. Use a prayer-times app set to Bangkok instead (more on that below).

Mosques in Bangkok worth knowing

1. Ton Son Mosque (Bangkok Yai, near Wat Arun)

Ton Son is often called the oldest mosque in Bangkok. Travel channels date the first building to the late Ayutthaya period, around the 1680s, and the current building was rebuilt in concrete in the 20th century. Inside, the prayer hall is clean and calm, with air-conditioning, fans and a well-kept wudu area, and the imam is often happy to tell you about the mosque's history. It is a short walk from Wat Arun, so it fits easily into a day on the Thonburi side. As a bonus, there are halal food sellers right outside, with proper meals rather than just snacks.

Renovation work in late 2024 limited access to the main hall, with other spaces set aside for prayer, so check the latest photos on the Google Maps link before you go. Walk over from Wat Arun rather than taking a taxi, because the lanes get stuck in traffic.

2. Bang Luang Mosque, also called Kudi Khao (Thonburi)

This small white mosque is unusual because it was built in a Thai style rather than with domes and minarets. Thai sources date it to the reign of King Rama I, and it is still the centre of a small riverside community where Muslim, Buddhist, Christian and Chinese families live side by side. It is clean, with an Islamic learning centre next door, and the locals are friendly and happy to talk.

It is not easy to find. You reach it on foot through narrow lanes behind the houses, and there is no dome to look out for. Follow the Google Maps link closely, and if the door is closed outside prayer times, ask someone nearby. The women's area is small.

3. Chakraphong Mosque (Banglamphu, near Khao San Road)

The handiest mosque if you are staying around Khao San Road or visiting the Grand Palace area. It is small, well kept and very welcoming, with a shelf of Islamic books that even includes a Bangla translation of the Qur'an. Its history goes back to the early Rattanakosin period, when Muslims from Pattani settled in this part of the old city, which makes it one of the oldest mosques inside the old town. If you are in Bangkok for Eid, this is a lovely place to pray, and the community often shares food afterwards.

For food in this area, see our guide to halal food near the Grand Palace and Khao San Road.

4. Haroon Mosque (Bang Rak, Charoen Krung Road)

A riverside mosque in Bang Rak, close to the old customs house and the Charoen Krung art streets. It was founded in the 1820s by Sheikh Haroon Bafaden, a merchant from Indonesia, and was later moved back from the river to its current spot. The prayer halls are air-conditioned and well kept, the women's area is clean with prayer clothes provided, and some Friday sermons are given in two languages. There is also a madrasa in the compound.

The lanes around the mosque have halal food stalls. Come early, because the best dishes sell out fast. For more places to eat nearby, see our halal food guide to Silom and Bang Rak.

5. Java Mosque (Sathorn)

As the name suggests, this mosque has roots in Bangkok's Javanese community, and visitors from Indonesia often feel the connection. It sits in a narrow residential street about a 7-minute walk from BTS Surasak, so it is useful if you are staying around Sathorn or Silom. The mosque is beautiful and well organised, and you will find affordable halal food stalls in the streets around it.

It is tucked into a dense neighbourhood, so keep the Google Maps link open as you walk. If you get lost, the locals will point you the right way.

6. Darul Aman Mosque (Ratchathewi, near Pratunam)

One of the most convenient mosques if you are staying around Pratunam, Phaya Thai or Victory Monument. It is large and clean, and the air-conditioning makes it a welcome stop on a hot day. Friday sermons are given in Arabic and Thai, and there is sometimes a free lunch after Friday prayers. The streets around it have small halal eateries.

7. Masjid Soi Sukhumvit (Middle East Hotel, Nana)

This is the mosque most Sukhumvit visitors end up using, but it is easy to walk past. It is on the 2nd floor of the Middle East Hotel, in the Sukhumvit Soi 3-5 area, about 300 m from BTS Nana. Go into the hotel and up to the second floor. The prayer area is small but clean, with proper wudu facilities and shoe racks.

It fills up on Fridays, so arrive at least half an hour early to get a place.

8. Islamic Centre of Thailand (Ramkhamhaeng)

The Foundation of the Islamic Centre of Thailand runs a large complex here, not just a mosque. There is plenty of prayer space, a large air-conditioned area for women, and food stalls on the ground floor that are busiest after Friday prayers. It is a short walk from the Airport Rail Link at Ramkhamhaeng, so it is easy to combine with a trip to or from Suvarnabhumi.

Outside Friday it can feel quiet. If you want to see it busy, go for Jumu'ah.

Prayer rooms in Bangkok malls and airports

Prayer rooms in malls are often hidden near car parks or service corridors. Mall layouts change, so if you cannot find a room, ask at the information counter for the "Muslim prayer room".

9. Siam Paragon prayer room (B level)

The prayer room is on Level B, near the lifts in the South Wing. Take the South Wing lifts down to B, or start from the food hall on the G floor and take the lifts behind it. There are separate spaces for men and women, prayer mats and lockers, but the wudu area is shared.

There is a security desk next to the room where you may be asked to write your name. The room is small, so expect a short wait at busy times.

  • 5th floor (women): a women's prayer room near the car park access, with prayer robes and prayer mats.
  • 6th floor: the original prayer room.

The rooms are air-conditioned and have prayer mats.

Tips for praying in Bangkok

  • Use an app for prayer times and qibla. Muslim Pro and similar apps work well in Bangkok. Set the location to Bangkok and check the qibla with your phone compass, especially in malls.
  • Dress modestly and carry a scarf. This applies to men and women, and it also helps when you visit Buddhist temples on the same day.
  • Some smaller mosques are locked between prayers. If the door is closed, ask someone nearby, or come a little before the adhan.
  • Ask before taking photos, and keep your voice down if people are praying.
  • Pair your visit with a meal. Ton Son, Haroon, Java and Darul Aman all have halal food in the streets around them.
